Recreation Department Online Classes

‘Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.’ (Socrates)

Classes Run by Our Instructors for Your Community

Daily Classes

Online STEM Homeschool & Essential Learning Skills:
Guardian Adventures takes a very different approach to STEM education in that we place a high emphasis on emotional engagement in the topic of study as well as providing the subject in the form of an exciting story or mystery that the students have to solve together. Our students are kids who are highly creative and don’t do well in a one-size-fits-all model.
Guardian Adventures has also selected a number of essential learning skills that we are certain will be both applicable and important to our students, whether they wish to become computer game designers, scientists, authors, inventors, artists, or any other career path. Essential learning skills will help them forge a path when there isn’t a teacher available to tell them how.
Classes held Monday-Friday for grades 6-8 from 2:30-3:30pm. Limited spots are available.

The Magic of Virtual Adventures…

Online Afterschool & Outdoor Adventures:

This program provides a solution to social isolation with more emphasis on story, adventure, outdoor exploration, and camaraderie than education. We call our participants “Heroes” as they navigate an ongoing story that never repeats where they make decisions and battle antagonists like monsters and zombies with their wits and special skills. Think of a computer game… but where the story is relayed live, by our instructors. And instead of using avatars, the other heroes are there, on-screen with you as you run around outside your home, collecting what you need to solve the mystery. Classes held Monday-Friday for grades 3-8 from 4:00-5:00pm. Limited spots are available.

The Power of Outdoor Online Adventures…

Weekly Classes

Online Foil Fencing:
At Guardian Adventures, our emphasis is more on personal growth and technical development of your foil fencing skills than competitive training. Our priorities are your individual training goals. However, make no mistake about it, you will be learning the same techniques and rules used in the Olympics. Our teachers are renowned for being creative, interactive, fun, and welcoming to all skill levels. Must have appropriate space for safe practice of fencing drills.
*Students must have or purchase a Fencing Foil from online store – link provided.

Online Fantasy Adventures:
Our Fantasy Adventures specialize in getting participants physically, mentally, and socially active in a setting that appreciates their uniqueness. Where else can they fight monsters, solve mysteries, and learn while burning calories with their new friends? These exciting adventures bring out the best in your young hero.
*Students are encouraged to dress the part of their heroes with costuming and representative weapons and props which they can find or make at home.

Online Interactive Games:
The Interactive Games Classes are less about the story and more about fun, interactive games that require teamwork, problem-solving, and getting to know your fellow players. Improv activities, board, and social games abound. This is a good class for kids who prefer immediate and action-oriented objectives and group challenges instead of more elaborate scenarios.

Online Teen Leadership Program:
It’s difficult to get teens real-life training for work and college that involves planning, public speaking, classroom management, designing curriculum, and more in a manner that is socially and emotionally engaging. Our Instructors help our Teen Leaders develop important skills while staying socially engaged with their classmates in a creative learning environment where they take the lead. Teen Leaders can earn their course completion certificate – which looks great on a resume or college application!

Online Historic Weapons:
Are you a history buff? Looking for an online swordsmanship class that is like a “world tour” of swords and other weapons?  Learn techniques used throughout history as well as about weapons and battles of the past by re-enacting their styles. Must have appropriate space for safe practice of fencing drills.
*Requires student to purchase Foam Sword from online store – link provided.

Pricing for Online Classes 4 weeks, per student: (does not include Rec Dept Fee)
  • 1 hour class: $20/class per student per week = $80
  • 1.5 hour class (T2): $30/class per student per week = $120

Halloween or Special Event

Online Zombie Escape Room
Join us for a two-hour long interactive online escape room adventure themed around zombies this Halloween on October 31st. Groups of up to ten will be led on an adventure hosted via Zoom. The zombie survivors will need to use teamwork, investigative skills, roleplay, and physical interactions across the screen to save the day and prevent the zombie outbreak. Ages 7-12 from 4 pm-6 pm (limit of 10 spots) OR Ages 12-16 from 7 pm-9 pm (limit of 10 spots). Fee: $25/person

Important Information:

  1. Every online class and event is led by a live, experienced, adult instructor who has been CORI/SORI checked. These are NOT pre-recorded events. We provide back-up instructors if one of our instructors is out sick.
  2. All classes and programs for the 4 week session will start the week of November 15th.
  3. All class/event attendees must have a completed waiver for online events (either ours or your own waiver which covers our company and staff).
  4. All class participants will be required to sign up for a Google Classroom account 48 hours before their first class to have full access to the program. This is not required for the Halloween event.
  5. All class participants will be required to attend a one-time online Tech Check and Introductory Lesson before their first class that will be hosted 30 minutes before the start of their first class. This is not required for the Halloween event.
  6.  All programs except the Halloween event are for 4 or 10 weeks of classes.
  7. Some classes may require the participant to purchase a piece of equipment from an online vendor – we will provide a link to the exact piece of equipment for them to order.
  8. Since we are running all of the below classes already, there are no minimum enrollment numbers for participants. Even if only 1 person enrolls, we can put them into the class as long as there are enough spots remaining. Smaller Recreation Departments may partner with other Recreation Departments to fill up a new class or you may reserve your own class if you can meet the minimum of 6 registrants per class.
  9. For the below classes, Directors must inform us immediately of any spots filled or Parents must register via our REC CLASS/EVENT FORM for the class before paying through your Recreation Department. This allows us to make sure we don’t oversell a class since we limit each class to a 1:10 teacher to student ratio. Once that class has filled, we may be able to open an additional class if we have at least 6 participants signed up. Since we are inviting numerous Recreation Departments into our programs, all 6 of the attendees may not have to come from the same town.
  10. Payment to our company is required no later than 2 weeks following the date of the last class of the session. Please let me know if this is a problem.
