In the last year, we’ve seen many changes happening around the castle, from our new name and logo to our oceanic endeavors with Royal Caribbean Cruises. But the changes aren’t over yet. Change leads to progress and we plan to keep progressing further every year towards our goal of making educational adventures available to everyone who wishes to learn with us. Another change is coming soon that will be a huge leap in that direction. Say hello…to The Story School!
Beginning in the fall of 2020, all of our STEM Summer Camps, including the outdoor adventures in Salem and our King’s Watch indoor day camp programs, will be provided by The Story School, a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2013 whose mission is to provide story-based educational programs to any and all young heroes, especially those in need. This is accomplished with fundraising efforts throughout the year and generous scholarship opportunities. You can learn more about what they do on their (brand new) website: www.thestoryschool.
What does this mean for you? Not a whole lot. Registering for a 2021 summer camp will be done through their payment system, not ours. You’ll also notice their name in the billing instead of the usual “Guard Up.” The camps, stories, characters, STEM, and seasonal staff will all be the same that you’ve grown to know and love. It’ll just be licensed by a nonprofit organization — one that we trust wholeheartedly.
We have no reservations about entrusting the camps to The Story School since the summer camp staff has always been supplied by The Story School and it has done an outstanding job time and time again. As well, the nonprofit is overseen by a board made entirely of parents. Many have been supporters of our camps and heroes for over a decade and have had more involvement than you might realize, some ever since our beginning.
This will be the first official licensing of our STEM Summer Camps but definitely will not be the last! We have plans to license our camps to other organizations in the future to spread the good word of story-based education. This means that we’ll be offering our services to organizations, from just staff training and consultation to our intellectual property (a fancy name for the plot and game system).
So, if you know of an organization that would be a good match for our STEM/story/adventurously creative style, let us know via the form below! The future is bright for the Guardians and we’re pleased to say that soon more and more young heroes from all households will be able to share in the magic that we make.
