Important: Guard Up Is Moving

Most of you know that Guard Up has been in its current location for over 10 years. While the castle has served us well during that time, we have had to face the reality of a new normal. Consequently, we have decided it is time to move to a larger facility where we can run our day camps on-site and have classes with better social distancing in effect. Coupled with the high cost of maintaining our current facility at a time when many of us are reluctant to participate in large groups, we decided that the smartest thing to do is to fully commit to online adventuring this fall and give up our lease as of October 31, 2020.

What this means for most of you is a continuation of our online classes for a few more months while we search for the appropriate space located in or around the Burlington area. The classes that are currently being run in person will continue to do so until the end of October, but we won’t be adding any additional classes until we reopen in January or early February. Our plan is to reopen sometime around the beginning of the year and be ready to run live, in-person adventures before the February school break. We are hopeful that a vaccine will be widely available by then so we will all feel safe coming back in person.

This decision to close the castle for another few months serves us well as it will save us thousands of dollars and spare both our staff and community the risk of exposure. In addition, by doing this now, we are able to pack up and dismantle the castle on our schedule and not the landlord’s.

To be very clear: While we are closing the castle doors, Guardian Adventures is still in business and still working towards bringing our heroes back as soon as it is possible.

In the meantime, here are 3 simple ways you can help reopen as fast as possible:

  1. Participate in our online classes or events, or by joining us for our daily Home School and After School programs.
  2. Sharing our fundraising for summer camp 2021 through The Story School. When sharing the link with friends and family, please be sure to let them know what camp has meant to you.
  3. Reach out to your professional network and see if there is anyone who is involved in online education or recreation programs that you think would be interested in partnering with us to provide programming. We are certain that our programs fill a niche and the area where we could use the most assistance is in making more people aware of what we do. Please have them contact us or send an email to introduce us.

Filling our existing online programs and reaching our fundraising goals for The Story School will ensure that we will be in a position to run camp in person and return to a more normal schedule.

We look forward to working with you and your families for a long time. So, hang in there and watch for our announcement in a few months regarding our newest home.
