Guardian Adventures is a Burlington, MA company offering story-based educational adventures for kids, teens, and adults as well as providing classes in swordsmanship instruction and other unique and creative subjects. Our educational summer camps attract customers from around the globe and our consulting division provides curriculum development and training for both local businesses as well as Fortune 500 companies.

About Your Role

Position Title: Curriculum Coordinator and Story Director

Reports To: Executive Curriculum Director and Camp Director

Part-time during the year, Full-time during the summer

Position Summary

Part-time during the year, Full-time onsite (including overnight) during the summer for 6.5 weeks. The Camp Curriculum Coordinator and Story Director is in charge of the final production and delivery of all educational and story-based curriculum design including the creation and implementation of all curriculum-based activities which integrate into established stories and have high entertainment value. This curriculum writer position creates all camp plots, and oversees and checks in with logistics, curriculum counselors, and the camp administration team to ensure the quality and efficiency of our entertainment and educational program delivery to the campers.

Required Qualifications

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Hold a degree in education
  • Have experience writing/designing STEM curriculum for K-12
  • Have a strong sense of creativity as it pertains to writing, plots, and stories
  • Have extensive experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Availability throughout the year for planning and meetings
  • Have supervisory or management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold teaching certification
  • Experience delivering educational programming in a camp setting
  • Experience developing/integrating Soft Skills curriculum
  • Experience teaching in a classroom
  • Experience sourcing equipment and supplies
  • Experience with Coding and Robotics

Major Responsibilities

  • Be a versatile and flexible member of the staff.
  • Be responsible for the plot and curriculum elements presented during Wizards & Warriors, Zombie, and Blackwatch STEM camp programs.
  • Oversee the camp curriculum team, including regular check-ins and performance reviews.
  • Be sensitive to the individual needs of each camper and staff.
  • Be aware of and act on any safety rule violations. 
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of pre-camp training for seasonal staff.
  • Complete all pre-camp assignments as required in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the Art & Ethos Director, Executive Curriculum Director, and Camp Director on planning summer camp plot and curriculum activities throughout the year. 
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of all curriculum-based activities and plot, writing and presenting activities as needed in a timely manner.
  • Meet regularly with the logistics and curriculum teams to ensure the smooth running of all camp programs and integration of curriculum with the plots.
  • Meet regularly with the administrative team to communicate any camper, staff, story, or curriculum issues. 
  • Attend pre-summer and daily summertime plot meetings to ensure smooth integration of STEM, cultural, and soft skills programming. 
  • Support plot through actions, and communication with campers throughout the day.
  • Be an expert on the guildhall curriculum (currently established).
  • Listen to and help facilitate camper autonomy. 
  • Complete camp chores as assigned.
  • Maintain open communication with supervisors regarding camper behavior, camper and staff needs.
  • Supervise campers when needed. Including assisting to cover camper dormitories, mealtimes, bedtime routines, and transition times as needed. 
  • Maintain guild hall and other curriculum inventory, including sourcing and ordering any additional supplies as needed. 
  • Abide by the rules of Story School and Guardian Adventures camp programs and help enforce them at all times. 
  • Role model the three tenets of a hero: courage, honor, compassion.
  • Facilitate in-game conversations between camper groups as needed. (All camp discussions). 
  • Participate in camp set up and clean up at the beginning and end of each summer. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
